First Description of the Male of Zelotes sindi Caporiacco, 1934 (Araneae: Gnaphosidae) With Its Phylogenetic Placement

First Description of the Male of Zelotes sindi Caporiacco, 1934 (Araneae: Gnaphosidae) With Its Phylogenetic Placement Abstract The male of Zelotes sindi Caporiacco, 1934, previously unknown to science, is documented for the first time based on specimens collected from the Kashmir Himalayas, India. Detailed description and illustrations of the habitus and the palp are provided. Genomic DNA was extracted from a spider leg, and the barcode sequence is available in GenBank under the accession number PQ763483 and the Barcode Index Number BOLD: AGP6100 in Barcode of Life Data Systems. Phylogenetic analysis supported its genetic distinctiveness and was in congruence with current morphological identification. Zehbi, N., Yousuf, M., & Ganai, B.A. (2026). A new species of Chaerilus Simon, 1877 from the island of Koh Pha Ngan, Thailand (Scorpiones: Chaerilidae)

Abstract

A new scorpion species of the genus Chaerilus Simon, 1877 (Scorpiones: Chaerilidae) is described from the island of Koh Pha Ngan in the Gulf of Thailand. Chaerilus phangan sp. n. is diagnosed and compared with its closely related congeners known from the Thai mainland and surrounding regions. Consistent with recent findings within the genus, the new species exhibits subtle but diagnosable morphological differentiation, emphasizing the importance of detailed comparative morphology for resolving localized diversity in Southeast Asian Chaerilus. The discovery of this insular taxon raises the total number of confirmed Chaerilus species in Thailand to six.
