From oceans to mountains: global dispersal and local diversification in Rhene (Araneae: Salticidae) Abstract Jumping spiders (Salticidae) are a diverse group of non-web-building predators and the most species-rich family. Rhene is a species-rich genus of the predominantly New World tribe Dendryphantini. However, its monophyly and phylogenetic composition are untested. We present the first molecular phylogeny of Rhene using mitochondrial (COI) and nuclear markers (28S, 18S, and H3), set within a broader framework of the prominent Old World Marpissoida, to test its monophyly and resolve its divergence patterns. Our analyses robustly support the monophyly of Rhene and reveal a previously unrecognised endemic lineage in the montane forests of Sri Lanka that currently comprises two new species: Rhene fuscigera sp. nov. and Rhene nigrigera sp. nov. Additionally, we provide revised descriptions for the Sri Lankan representatives of the widely distributed species R. albigera, R. f...
