New data on jumping spiders of the subfamily Spartaeinae (Araneae, Salticidae) from New Guinea, with the description of a new species

Abstract

We describe a new species of Gelotia Thorell, 1890, Gelotia korowai sp. nov., which is the first Gelotia species from the island of New Guinea. New records for four Cocalodes species—C. innotabilis Wanless, 1982; C. macellus (Thorell, 1878); C. papuanus Simon, 1900, and C. thoracicus Szombathy, 1915­—are presented, and the specimens are illustrated. Lectotypes for C. plebejus Szombathy, 1915 and C. thoracicus are also designated. With 49 original images and a distribution map.
