Geographic distribution of Euathlus manicatus (Simon, 1892) (Araneae: Theraphosidae) in Chile: new localities and comments on the identity of the female described by Legendre & Calderón (1984)
Abstract
The geographical distribution of Euathlus manicatus in Chile is updated using data from scientific collections and records obtained through citizen science programs. From this analysis, 99 new localities were obtained for the country, extending the northern limit by more than 100 km to the locality of Topocalma (34°05’50’’ S, 71°55’11’’ W), in the the Libertador General Bernardo O’Higgins Region, while the southern limit extends approximately 230 km to the locality of Malalcahuello (38°28’49” S, 71°49’11’’ W), in the La Araucanía Region. Furthermore, based on new material collected, we consider that the female previously described and illustrated as E. manicatus by Legendre and Calderón, could have corresponded to that of this species.
